Anansi Boys - Kepler's Staff Review

Fat Charlie's life is mundane. He doesn't like his job much, his boss is an ogre, but when his fiancée insists he phone to invite his estranged  father to the wedding he finds out his father has just died singing karaoke in Florida. And this changes his life completely. For one thing, he had no idea his father was the god, Anansi (the African spider god). And he also had no idea he had a brother -- a brother who is everything he is not. And who comes to visit, steals his fiancée, gets him fired from his job, and even gets him suspected of stealing. Fat Charlie, in despair, turns to magic and the other gods to get rid of  his brother, and that's when things go from bad to much, much worse.

I loved this tale of gods and magic, love, deception, and revenge, witches, ghosts, murder, storytelling, singing, and what's important in life. It's both exceptionally funny and utterly disturbing, as is so much of Gaiman's work, weaving Anansi's stories skillfully into Charlie's search to get back to where he started. I can't recommend it highly enough. --Angela M.
